The Stanwick Family

We would like to introduce our family.  All are eager to meet you.

FamilyThe Stanwick family includes Jinx and Craig, and their two children Chad and Stacy.  Chad and his family live in Eden Valley, Minnesota.  Stacy and her family currently reside in Aitkin, Minnesota.  Jinx and Craig are the proud grandparents of 4 boys.  Chad’s boys are Jordan (8) and Tyler (5).  Stacy’s are Hunter (7) and Tanner (4).

Our home is on Lake Belle Taine.

Jinx and Craig got to know one another when both signed contracts to teach school in Nevis.  Within a year we were engaged, married, and looking for a place to live.  We stayed in a mobile home on Owl Lake for a short time.  But when Chad was born we needed more room.  We wanted a place we really could call home.  Shortly thereafter, we purchased the property on Muskie Bay of Lake Belle Taine, our first home.  We truly love it here!  We have added on to the house and continue to remodel the inside, but it is the place we proudly call “home”.  This is where we raised our two children.  We have a lifetime of wonderful memories to share with our grandchildren and anyone else that cares to listen.

Resort Content remains an old fashion “Ma and Pa” resort.

Jinx and Craig purchased the resort from the bank during the summer of 1990.  Having lived almost next door to the resort for over 20 years we were familiar with some of the “ups” and “downs” the business had experienced.  It was not destined to be our livelihood.  We believed the resort had potential and we wanted to share with other families what we had experienced living on the lake for so many years.  Our goal was to provide a quiet restful place where families could spend time together.  We wanted to provide a place to stay most families could afford.  So we purchased the resort and began fixing up the cabins and developing a clientele.

Another chapter in our life unfolds.

For 33 years Craig was busy as a teacher, coach, and athletic director.  For all but the first year or so, he was employed in Nevis.  Jinx decided to take early retirement in the year 2000.  She was teaching family and consumer science, health, and physical education in the Laporte school system, a position she had held for 23 years.  Having spent 27 years in the field of education, it was time for a change.

Retirement years are busy years.

Retirement has provided the opportunity to explore other interests, travel, pursue hobbies, and work to improve the resort experience for you.  Craig remains active in the winter months driving a school bus route.  He and Jinx are both avid bowlers.  Note, I did not say good bowlers.  Craig is still very interested in sporting events.  He cannot remember what he ate for breakfast but he can relive a football game, “play by play”, from twenty five years ago.  Jinx is busy at the computer every day.  She maintains the database for the local bowling association and takes care of business.  She wishes she could find more time to knit, sew, make cards and enjoy other crafts.  Jinx likes to read.  She has been known to become involved in a good mystery and lose track of time.  The grandchildren are very much a part of our life.  We are always excited to see them come but very tired when they go home.  Both Jinx and Craig are finding it meaningful to reconnect with family and friends.

The next generation prepares to take over.

Over the years we have learned a lot.  Now we are ready to let the younger generation do all the hard physical work.  We want to sit back and enjoy our guests.  We are available to play cards or just sit and chat.  Our son, Chad, and his wife Kristi have expressed interest in taking over the operation of the resort.  Chad is in the process of selling his business and returning to the classroom as a teacher.  This would allow him more time to devote to the resort in the summer months.  We look forward to having him more available on a day to day basis.  Daughter, Stacy, has been actively involved in the resort from the beginning.  She has cleaned more cabins than she cares to remember.  Her husband, Kris, works for the Department of Natural Resources and is an excellent carpenter.  We have him to thank for many of the upgrades to our cabins.  Our children and our grandchildren love exploring the lakes and woods of Minnesota.  To experience life here is to experience life to the fullest.
